October 2010 - ISSW
It was good to be back at the International Snow Science Workshops after a decade of skipping the bi-annual event. It was held in Squaw Valley the third week of October. Catching up with patrollers I hadn't seen in many years was a treat, but I came home with explosion envy. Playing with some of the high-powered tools during the Mt. Rose field trip was fun but it made the 2 Kilo Dynex hand charges I throw at my home hill seem puny.
Avalauncher - good payloads, nice distance and accuracy!
GazEx - 20 Kilo TNT equivalent above the highway with remote firing. Very cool but you have to remember to open your mouth when it goes off, even with ear protection. The gal standing next to me peed herself when we fired it the first time...literally.
AVY Tube delivers 5 Kilos of dynamite about 300 yards. It might work at Baldy if we ever get the North faces developed and opened.

Wow, that must have been FUN!
Yeah, crazy good time. The lectures were hit and miss but the meet and greets were awesome. Good beer, avalanche legends from all over the world, old friends---it doesn't get much better.
